Barnsley firms warned about bogus directories

Have your say

Trading Standards officers in Barnsley are warning businesses about bogus directory scams.

They have received a number of complaints from firms about directory publishers.

Businesses have been receiving forms in the post, via email or by being contacted by telephone or fax offering a free listing or asking if they still want to be listed in a business directory.

They are usually asked to confirm that their details are correct and are then asked to return the forms even if they don’t want to be included in the directories.

In the small print it states that by returning the forms they are placing an order to be included in the directories.

The fees are usually hundreds of pounds a year.
