Barnsley burglar receives custodial sentence and ordered to pay victim

A burglar who was caught red-handed by the police in Barnsley has received a 28 month custodial sentence and been ordered to pay the victim by Sheffield Crown Court.

In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said the burglar, who was not identified, was found to be in possession of a large amount of jewellery and electrical items when arrested.

"On the 3rd October 2019, Penistone Community Police Officers attended to the report of burglary in progress on Huddersfield Road, Penistone.

"Following a quick response, officers apprehended a burglar at the scene in possession of a large amount of jewellery and electrical items.

"On the 27th November 2019, the suspect appeared at Sheffield Crown Court and received a 28 months custodial sentence together with compensation to pay to the victim.

"All stolen items from the property were recovered and have been returned to the owner."
