Banned Sheffield driver appears in court charged with killing woman in Derbyshire collision

A Sheffield man has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a woman in a car crash.

Gulroz Khan, 23, appeared before Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, March 11, charged with causing death while being disqualified from driving in June 2018.

The alleged offence took place on June 22, 2018, at Derwent Dam, on an unnamed road accessing Fairholmes Visitors Centre in Derwent, Bamford.

It is understood that Khan suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision in question.

He was so unwell that police could not interview him until April 2019, nearly a full year later.

The victim, Ameena Khan, suffered fatal injuries.

Khan, of Wilfred Close, Sheffield, did not enter a plea at this stage, and the case was sent directly to Derby Crown Court as the allegations were so serious.

He was granted unconditional bail.

The next hearing will be on the morning of April 8, where a plea is expected.
