Attempted burglary of a Sheffield scrap metal yard leads to a police chase through two counties

Cops from South Yorkshire and Derbyshire worked together with the police dogs to catch a motorist wanted for an attempted burglary of a scrap metal yard in Sheffield.

The chase started at around 1:30am on Saturday, February 20, when a Fiesta failed to stop for South Yorkshire Police following reports of an attempted burglary at a scrap metal yard in Old Lane, Halfway.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “This led to a police pursuit through the Halfway, Renishaw and Killamarsh areas.

"Officers disabled the car in Rotherham Road and the driver attempted to flee on foot.“A short time later, a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary.”

Derbyshire Roads Police picked up the chase when the car crossed the border.

An RPU spokesperson said on Twitter: “We were waiting with stinger which was successful. The driver was 'detained' by a police dog and arrested for dangerous driving, and being unfit through drink/drugs and possession of drugs.”

SYP's Operational Support Unit added it was great team work and said: “A protracted pursuit last night, dipping in & out of S.Yorks & Derbyshire.
