Sheffield Crown Court heard today, Wednesday, March 4, how Luca Premi, 24, of Treswell Crescent, Hillsborough, Sheffield, discharged the imitation firearm at the Kettle Black bar, on Ecclesall Road, Sheffield, on January 10.

Neil Coxon, prosecuting, said security staff became aware of a problem in the tunnel area of the bar between Premi and another man who indicated Premi had a knife and they removed the defendant from the premises.

Premi and the man continued to exchange words and there was a fight outside before the man returned, according to Mr Coxon, and the defendant pushed through security staff and ran at the complainant.

Mr Coxon said: “As he was gong past the security staff he reached into what appeared to be his trouser pocket and produced a six-inch-long, black-coloured revolver style weapon.”

He added that security staff thought the gun looked genuine and they thought the defendant was going to shoot the man.

The victim fell and the defendant had the gun pointing at the man and security staff said they heard a bang and saw Premi use the firearm to strike the man to the head, according to Mr Coxon.

Mr Coxon said Premi fled in a taxi but was pursued by police and chased on foot to the Ponderosa Park before he was arrested.

Premi, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause violence, and possessing a knife which was found by police.

Ian West, defending, said Premi’s cousin had died some time ago racing and the man Premi recognised and assaulted had been the other driver in that incident.

Mr West added Premi has suffered a relationship breakdown and had been involved in a road accident and had become depressed and if he had not been in this state he would have shown better judgement.

Judge Graham Reeds QC told Premi: “This was an offence where a gun was pointed and fired at a person you chased outside a crowded bar in Sheffield.”

He sentenced Premi to three-years of custody.
