Officers were called to City Road around 3.50pm, where they located the woman and spoke to her. No further action was taken.

A City Road resident, who wished not to be named, said: “I was near the gym (on Fitzwalter Road) when police came running up to me asking if I had seen somebody running past.

"There were police cars all over and a helicopter flying as well. I said I hadn’t and the police went up towards Skye Edge.”

Police report that the BMW had recently been stolen in the Sheffield area, and was seen in the Attercliffe area by our firearms police where it then failed to stop.

It was then pursued by them, before roads policing teams took over the chase. The pursuit continued into the Manor area where the vehicle was abandoned.

Two people, believed to have been in the vehicle, were detained nearby and further enquiries are ongoing.

It is not known whether the two incidents were connected. South Yorkshire Police have been approached for confirmation.
