Six South Yorkshire killers have been locked up so far this year, with the latest jailed for a fatal attack on a man on a night out in Sheffield.

Yongqi Liang, aged 25 and originally from Shanghai, China, was locked up for five years this week for the manslaughter of Xiangyu Li in Sheffield city centre in March this year.

Xiangyu, who was 26 and originally from Jilin City China, was a former student at The University of Sheffield and was visiting friends in the city when he was attacked.

He had been drinking with Liang in the hours before violence flared.

CCTV footage captured Liang knocking Xiangyu unconscious in Union Street and then spending eight minutes battling to revive him before fleeing the scene.

He left the country the following day but was arrested when he landed in Germany.

The killer was jailed after pleading guilty to manslaughter,

Last week, Craig Woodhall was jailed for life after admitting the murder of his estranged wife.

The 41-year-old chased Victoria, 31, out of their former marital home in Windsor Crescent, Barnsley and attacked her with a machete.

He was ordered to serve a minimum of 18-and-a-half years behind bars for the murder, which was described as ‘truly horrific’ by South Yorkshire Police.

In July, three men were jailed for their roles in the death of Rotherham man Daniel Dix.

The 38-year-old was critically injured when rival Rotherham United and Sheffield United fans clashed on Bridgegate, Rotherham, in March 2019.

Kyle Beech, 27, of Maltby; Brock Playforth, 26, of North Anston; and Liam Green, 23, of Maltby, were all found guilty of manslaughter, with

Beech jailed for nine years, Playforth sentenced to eight years and Green was locked up for six years.

CCTV footage showed Mr Dix knocked unconscious as he was punched to the ground by Beech.

While Mr Dix lay injured and unconscious on the floor, Playforth was seen running towards him and putting his foot towards his head.

Green then kicked the dad-of-one in the mid-section of his body while he was on the ground.

That same month, 17-year-old Emar Wiley was jailed for 16 years for the murder of dad-of-one Lewis Bagshaw.

Lewis, 21, chased by his killer and knifed in his chest on the Southey estate.

The killer was a drug dealer who was driven around Sheffield by older drivers in return for him paying for their car insurance policies.

He had clashed with Lewis’ dad a few weeks before the fatal stabbing, and Lewis had confronted the teen on the day of the killing.
