89-year-old hospitalised with 'serious injuries' after colliding with van in Barnsley

Police are seeking witnesses to a collision in Barnsley which left an 89-year-old woman hospitalised with “serious leg injuries”.

The collision took place at around 11am on Wednesday (15 July) on Laithes Crescent in the Athersley area of the town.

The driver of the vehicle – a white Ford Transit drop side van – involved in the crash is currently “cooperating” with the investigation, a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said: “The woman was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries." Her current condition is not known. The Star has contacted South Yorkshire Police for further information.

Anyone who saw what happened this afternoon is being urged to contact 101 quoting incident number 289 of 15 July. Officers investigating the incident are also urging anyone who may have captured the collision on dash cam or CCTV to contact them.
