Neighbourhood policing team takes action
Neighbourhood police stopped an illegal 50mph e-bike after it tried to flee down an alley in Sheffield.
Officers from South Yorkshire Police’s Ecclesfield and Shiregreen neighbourhood policing team spotted the rider with no lights, even though it was dark, and were concerned over the speed they were travelling.

They signalled for him to stop.
Police said in a statement: “The rider fancied his chances of getting away so went off down an alley way.
“Unfortunately for him, the officers local knowledge meant the could cut him off at the other end and detained him.

“Examination of the bike showed it was able to travel at nearly 55mph, some 40mph over the legal limit.”
“These bikes are illegal and dangerous and should not be ridden on the road or public spaces.”
The bike was seized and officers say the rider faces large fines and penalty points for riding it without a licence or insurance.
