11 criminals who were locked up in March 2022 after sentencing hearings at Sheffield Crown Court
Numerous criminals have been put behind bars after being brought to justice at Sheffield Crown Court in March 2022, for offences ranging from rape to robbery to wounding.

Here, we have summarised the facts of cases relating to 11 South Yorkshire defendants whose offending was so serious that the judges presiding over their cases felt they had no option but to jail them.
They have been taken off the county’s streets, with custodial sentences ranging from 10 months to six years being passed.

9. Fahima Ismail: Jailed for 10 months
Sheffield Crown Court heard on March 11 how Fahima Ismail, aged 25, of Wilfred Close, Darnall, Sheffield, was outside a Sainsbury’s store, on Hanover Street, when she was given £5 by a man before she asked for more money and stole his bank card as he tried to use a cash machine.
Judge Rachael Harrison told Ismail: "You committed a robbery on October 1, 2020. The victim was treating you with kindness. You bothered him. You were relentlessly requesting money. You interfered with his attempt to take money from a cashpoint.”
Ismail, who has convictions including theft, threatening behaviour, attempted robbery and burglary, pleaded guilty to the robbery which happened on October 1, 2020.

Sheffield Crown Court heard on March 2 how Connor Batty, aged 22, of Summer Lane, Wombwell, Barnsley, was spotted fighting with a man before going into a property and returning with two knives and stabbing the man as well as his friend who had tried to intervene.
Brian Outhwaite, prosecuting, said a witness saw Batty fighting with another man outside a property on Pleasant View, Cudworth, Barnsley, and as the defendant was struggling he went inside a property and returned armed with two knives.
Mr Outhwaite added that two males were seen fleeing to a van and one suffered a stab wound to his back and buttocks after a scuffle and the other man who had been trying to stop the violence suffered a stab wound to his right hand.
Jonathan Wood, aged 30, of Main Street, Wombwell, Barnsley, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to the burglary and also to possessing a bladed article after a drill was stolen from the shed.
Recorder Angela Frost sentenced Batty to 35 months of custody and banned him from driving for 35 months and 15 days.

Officers say there were over 30,000 litres of fuel in tanks at the garage where Scott Dearing, aged 36 started a fire on November 12 last year.
Sheffield Crown Court heard how on November 12 2021, Dearing, formerly of Ash View, Greasbrough, visited the Jet Garage on Masborough Street, Rotherham, filling a petrol container with fuel.
He tried to fill up a second, unapproved container, but was stopped for safety reasons by the night cashier.
Dearing admitted arson endangering life, possession of a knife/bladed article, criminal damage to a vehicle and a public order offence at a previous hearing. He was jailed for 45 months on March 16. Photo: South Yorkshire Police
