Cricket ace Sir Ian Botham joins TV host Jeff Stelling at Doncaster pub for 260-mile charity walk

The legendary sports star met up with the Soccer Saturday host at Sandtoft's Reindeer Inn as the presenter and his team stopped off for lunch halfway between their start point at Doncaster Rovers' Keepmoat Stadium and Scunthorpe United's Glanford Park ground.

Sir Ian, a former Scunthorpe player and known for his charity walking exploits, surprised the walkers by joining with his dog Pinot and his family, at the midway point.

Sky presenter Stelling is walking from Hartlepool to Wembley in epic challenge for UK men’s health charity Prostate Cancer UK.

Together with close friend – and Hartlepool Chief Executive Russ Green – Stelling is walking from Victoria Park, home of the League Two club, en route south to Wembley Stadium.

Clocking in at 262 miles, Jeff’s Men United March - menunitedmarch.org - will see the 61-year-old check in on 32 football clubs, and along the way he will be joined by famous friends and colleagues and people affected by prostate cancer.

Peter Swann, chairman of Scunthorpe United, a club that proudly has the Prostate Cancer UK logo on their shirts this season, also joined Jeff on the walk. Mascots from both Doncaster and Scunthorpe and Alan Stirling and Hugh Steven, two men affected by prostate cancer, also took on the challenge.

Jeff said: “They say I can talk the talk; but now it’s about walking the walk, and it was great to be in South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire as my Men United March for Prostate Cancer UK continued.

“It was great to link up with friends old and new as myself and Russ continued our long walk south, all in aid of a fantastic cause.

The presenter is walking between Rotherham United and Chesterfield on today's leg of the route, dropping in at both Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday.
