Crash biker's lucky escape

A BIKER cheated death by inches when he flew off his powerful machine and narrowly missed trees near Rotherham.

The rider flew several feet through the air and landed in bushes on the roadside after losing control of his Yamaha R6 on Long Lane, between Maltby and Edlington.

He broke his ankle but firefighters say he was lucky to escape more serious injuries.

He had just travelled down the road, known locally as the “Straight Mile”, when he crashed at the first corner in good weather at 11am yesterday.

A Maltby fire spokesman said: “I don’t know how he lost control because there were no other vehicles involved. He flew through the air and just missed some tree trunks. He is very lucky to come out of that without very serious injuries. If you hit a tree trunk there is only one winner.”
