Crane company can carry on 'noisy' repair work

Cranes UK Ltd of Wentworth Industrial Park, Barnsley, has been given retrospective approval by the council’s planning board to change the use of its site from a warehouse to industry.

More than 40 people signed a petition and others sent in letters.

Residents said crane repairs created too much noise at unacceptable times of day and night.

But officials recommended the plans should be approved.

They said that the promise of an acoustic fence to muffle noise, and strict control over operating hours, meant that the change was acceptable.
