Sheffield thief and “menace” threatened woman with flick knife as she walked along city street with son
As Ahmed Mujel was jailed he yelled at a judge in Arabic before being removed from the dock by security guards
A well-known Sheffield thief and “menace to retail premises” threatened a woman with a flick knife as she walked along a city centre street with her young son.
As Ahmed Mujel, aged 30, was jailed at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday, October 30, he yelled at a judge in Arabic before being removed from the dock by security guards.

Mujel, who sacked his own defence council minutes before appearing at court, was said to have pulled the knife on the “terrified” woman on Waingate near Sheffield Castle at 9am on June 25.
It was the last in a string of city centre incidents - including one in Greggs when he spat in a worker’s face.
Jade Bucklow, prosecuting, described how on June 25 Mujel was with a group of males blocking the footpath when the complainant and her son approached.
He was heard shouting “you have a f*****g problem? I can hurt you”, while “flicking” the metal-handled flick knife in his right hand. He was later arrested by nearby police.
The court heard Mujel had 11 previous convictions for 20 offences including threats with weapons, knife possession, public order, assaults and theft.
Representing himself, Mujel told Richard Wright KC: ”I don’t have anything to say, I’m new to this country. I’m a refugee and encountered these problems because I’m new to this country. I just wanted to say I’m sorry.”
However Recorder Wright noted Mujel had been in the UK since “at least” August 2023 - the date of the first of “many convictions”.
He said: “You have become a thorough menace to retail premises in this city - you are not only a thief but you are aggressive and violent.
“You have previous convictions for violence and you are also a person who likes carrying and producing weapons - your continued violent and aggressive behaviour and possession of weapons is extremely concerning.”
Mujel, of no fixed abode, was jailed for 30 months. He admitted assault and threatening a person with a blade.
