Doncaster prison officer admits misconduct charge over "inappropriate relationship" with serving inmate
The charge of misconduct in public office carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment
A prison officer could be facing a stint behind bars over an “inappropriate relationship” with a serving inmate.
Claire Hallm aged 52, pleaded guilty to a misconduct charge over the relationship during a Sheffield Crown Court hearing held on Friday (May 1, 2026).

Charge information states that Hall, of Calder Avenue, Royston, Barnsley, wilfully neglected to perform duty/wilfully misconducted herself, while acting as a prison officer.
Hall, the charge states, acted “in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public's trust in the office holder by entering into an inappropriate relationship with a serving prisoner.”
The misconduct incident referred to occurred at a Doncaster prison on New Year’s Day 2024.
Following the guilty plea, the case was adjourned until July 2026 to allow for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
The offence carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, with sentences passed down ranging from community orders and suspended sentences to lengthy prison sentences for defendants in more serious cases.
A number of former Doncaster prison guards have been jailed for having inappropriate relationships with inmates, in cases heard at Sheffield Crown Court over the past year.
Three women, sentenced between March 2025 and February 2026, received prison sentences ranging from 10 months to 30 months.
Following Friday’s plea hearing, Hall was released on unconditional bail until her sentencing hearing.
