Gang of Sheffield brothers responsible for historic child sex abuse

The sickening child sex crimes of a twisted Sheffield man nicknamed “Killer” who threatened and coerced his victims with a gun can now be reported, after his younger brothers were found guilty of a catologue of similar offences.

Jurors returned guilty verdicts in the trial of defendants Kamar Ilyas, aged 39, and 38-year-old Kamran Ilyas on Monday, March 9, 2026, following a Sheffield Crown Court trial.

Their older brother, Amar, was found guilty of a total of 20 historic sex offences, including 13 counts of rape, along with a charge of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear in his absence at the conclusion of a September 2025 trial at the same court after he fled the country.

The twisted trio of brothers sexually abused and “terrorised” a vulnerable girl - Complainant One - in locations across Sheffield between 2004 and 2008, who was just 12 when the abuse began.

Complainant One, now a woman, was introduced to Amar Ilyas - dubbed the “Killer” - by Kamar Ilyas, and Amar Ilyas subsequently raped the girl on a weekly basis for three years, in parks, - including Endcliffe Park and Meersbrook Park - houses and his car.

She said that on one occasion Amar Ilyas gave her a cigarette laced with crack cocaine before raping her. Another time Amar Ilyas showed the girl a handgun he kept in his car, before taking her into a wooded area and raping her.

Amar Ilyas also preyed upon and sexually abused four other girls and young women from the Sheffield and Rotherham areas, all of whom are in their teens. In the case of some of the complainants, twisted Amar used violence and threats as part of the grooming process.

All five complainants are all entitled to lifelong anonymity.

All three brothers were charged in March 2023. Amar Ilyas subsequently fled the country and travelled to Pakistan after he was released on unconditional court bail. He is currently wanted by police.

Following the guilty verdicts in the trial of Kamar and Kamran Ilyas, a reporting restriction plus in place to ensure all three defendants received a fair trial has been lifted, meaning it is now possible to report the convictions of all three brothers.

Ilyas brothers “remorselessly terrorised vulnerable girls”

The three Ilyas brothers were investigated as part of the NCA’s Operation Stovewood, which investigates non-familial child abuse and exploitation in Rotherham 1997 and 2013.

Their investigation into the Ilyas brothers began after Operation Stovewood officers contacted Complainant One, who they identified was possibly a victim of child sexual abuse.

The Rotherham woman – now in her 30s – subsequently related how she been groomed and raped by Kamar, and then sexually abused by Amar and Kamran Ilyas, between 2004 and 2008, at locations across Sheffield.

Speaking after the final guilty verdicts were returned, NCA Senior Investigating Officer Alan Hastings said: “Amar, Kamar and Kamran Ilyas remorselessly terrorised vulnerable girls from Rotherham and Sheffield.

“Amar Ilyas’ victims were terrified of him and he mercilessly played on their fear to get them alone, sexually abuse them and ensure their silence afterwards.

“Our investigation found Amar Ilyas targeted his victims opportunistically or groomed them extensively. In one case Amar Ilyas subjected a child to three years of relentless torment and rape. Her suffering was compounded by the sexual abuse his brothers also committed against her.

“Despite the horrendous abuse all five women have suffered, they have shown great courage and absolute determination to see the perpetrators face justice, which our investigation has ensured for them all.”

“Kamran and Kamar Ilyas have been remanded in custody to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on June 22, when they will be sentenced.”

Sheffield Crown Court has issued a warrant for Amar Ilyas’s arrest. Officers from Operation Stovewood and the NCA’s Joint International Crime Centre are carrying out proactive enquiries to locate and arrest Amar Ilyas.
