Man in court over incident which triggered mass evacuation of flats on Washington Road, Sheffield
A man appeared in court today over an incident which resulted in dozens of flats being evacuated in a Sheffield neighbourhood.
Steven Budziszewski, aged 56, of Washington Road, Sharrow, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court this morning (April 9) over an incident at last month.
On March 18, residents were evacuated from their homes as armed police swarmed a block of flats on Washington Road over reports of a ‘suspicious device’.

A 100m police cordon shut several streets and dozens of neighbouring flats were evacuated until 8pm, with approximately 30 emergency vehicles pictured at the scene.
Budziszewski was charged with intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance and affray over the incident.
Appearing in court today wearing a grey tracksuit, he pleaded not guilty to a charge of affray.
Budziszewski did not enter a plea for the other charge and has been remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing scheduled for June.
A trial date has also been set for September.
