These criminals have all been jailed during the last year by Sheffield judges for killings and murders.
Some deliberately targeted their victims, others took lives in moments of madness, either by dangerous driving or mindless violence.
In one case a Sheffield man killed his ex’s new partner with a kitchen knife when a row erupted in the home he still shared with her and their children.
Another tragic case saw three doormen jailed for their “grotesque response” to a drunk bar-goer - who died by asphyxiation.

1. Michael James
James, 45, knifed his ex-girlfriend's new partner to death inside the Sheffield home he still shared with her and his children, who were upstairs at the time. His victim Bradley Hollis had arrived to fight James on March 16, 2025, after learning he had assaulted the woman. He took a knife from the kitchen and fatally stabbed the 35-year-old in front of the woman. James was found guilty of manslaughter and possession of a bladed article. He was jailed for 14 years. | SYP

2. Hamza Hussain
Hussain, 23, killed close friend - 18-year-old Mohammed Waheed - when he smashed his car into railings on a Sheffield roundabout. Sheffield Crown Court Hussain, who was 21 at the time, was an "inexperienced" driver in a powerful car going "too fast for the road conditions". Before hitting St Mary's Gate roundabout, at 49mph, the judge said he had been driving at 61mph in a 40mph zone on June 17, 2024. After the crash, Hussain fled the scene "leaving his friends injured, unresponsive and close to death in the car". A 15-year-old passenger suffered life-changing injuries. On May 19 Hussain was jailed for five years and four months. | SYP

3. Dean Tolan
Tolan, 36, of Bowman Drive, killed police worker Ellie Smart, 29, as she crossed Donetsk Way just after 7.30am on January 25, 2024. Tolan, travelling at 58mph in the direction of Crystal Peaks, did not see her in the road and failed to stop before colliding with her. He remained at the scene and contacted the emergency services immediately. One witness who stopped at the scene told the court he kept repeating "she came from nowhere" and was "visibly upset". Smart was taken to Northern General Hospital but was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries soon after arrival. | SYP

4. David Williams, Dwayne Watson and Mark Rowing
The trio of doormen killed 30-year-old man outside a bar in Doncaster following a "gross error and a grotesque response" to the drunk male's antics. Sheffield Crown Court heard they applied "significant pressure" to Jamie Kelly for about three minutes, crushing his head and neck. Kelly was taken to hospital where he later died due to asphyxiation on May 2, 2022. He was found to have injuries including damage to his trachea, voice box and bruising to the back of his head and body. Rowing, of Exchange Street, Doncaster, was jailed for two years and six months, Watson, of Kingston Road, Worksop, was jailed for two years, and Williams, of Kinross Crescent, Nottingham, was jailed for one year and eight months. | SYP
