Convicted South Yorkshire paedophile deleted dating and “encrypted” chat apps along with search history

A judge told Snaith he posed a “high risk of serious harm” to children and he could not be managed in the community

A convicted paedophile with rules imposed by a judge around his internet and phone use was found by supervising cops to have deleted dating and “encrypted” chat apps along with search history from an unregistered phone.

Daniel Snaith, aged 30, was caught red-handed during a routine visit from officers while living with his girlfriend on November 6 last year.

When police turned up at the Doncaster address he handed over a Samsung mobile phone and admitted he had been using his now ex-girlfriend’s laptop when she was “not present”.

A judge told Snaith he posed a “high risk of serious harm” to children and he could not be managed in the community.

Nicola Quinney, prosecuting, said the discoveries put chef Snaith in breach of a sexual harm prevention order imposed when he was jailed for over two years for possessing indecent images of children in 2023.

She said “various” applications had been deleted including dating and chat rooms between August and November - accounting for over six GB of data.

One of the apps was an “encrypted” chat app.

His phone’s search history had also been deleted - in breach of Saith’s sexual harm prevention order.

An inspection revealed a virtual private network was installed on Snaith’s ex-partner’s laptop - allowing his web activity to remain hidden.

Ms Quinney said: “It emphasises user confidentiality and that raises particular concerns for the Crown.”

David Watts, defending, said Snaith wished to “apologise” to the court for the offences.

Judge Megan Rhys said: “Over two months you had deleted a significant amount of data. You knew the terms of the order and would have been told of the serious consequences of non-compliance.

“You are assessed as posing a high risk of serious harm to children and the probation service do not feel you can be managed in the community.”

Snaith, formerly of Rosso Close, Belle Vue, Doncaster, was jailed for two years and eight months. He admitted breaching a sexual harm prevention order.
