A hardened store snatcher with 122 offences on her record has been jailed after pilfering from Boots while banned from even entering.

Chloe Hall, 27, swiped goods - mainly make-up, razors and shampoo - from the same Barnsley Cheapside branch four times between July 16 and September 12.

The breaches of an order banning her from “any” Boots outlet in the Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council area followed five additional transgressions of similar bans in 2024-2025.

Mark Thomas, prosecuting, told Sheffield Crown Court the latest order specified the 27-year-old addict “must use a shopping basket or trolley in any store” in Barnsley to make blagging five-fingered discounts more tricky.

Mr Thomas said during the latest two-month raid run Hall made off with £1,374 worth of goods in total. Staff chased her out of the store on one occasion and she handed the stolen items back before fleeing, he added.

Francis Edusei, defending, said his client had lived a “dreadful” life. The court heard she was brought up in care, her mother was “deceased” and she did not know who here father was.

Mr Edusei said Hall was caught up in a cycle of being released from prison with no support or accommodation while being hooked on hard drugs.

Judge Nigel Slater jailed Hall for 20 months. He told her: “You have amassed a record which runs to 40 pages.

“I accept a significant proportion are from when you were younger but you’ve shown you have a tendency to commit offences of this sort and a flagrant disregard for court orders.”

Hall, of Allatt Close, Barnsley, Flockton, admitted shop theft and breaching a criminal behaviour order - which was updated to include the Co-op.
