COURT: Sheffield United fan handed four-year football banning order from games

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court was told Bradley Morgan, aged 20, of Baslow Place, Waverley, had ‘caused or contributed to violence or disorder’ on eight separate match days when the Blades were playing.

The court heard the violent incidents occurred on the day Sheffield United played host to Barnsley on April 23 of this year and the home fixture against West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town on July 29, 2014.

Morgan was also said to have caused trouble at Sheffield United’s away games at Chesterfield on April 16 of this year, Port Vale on January 9 of this year, Aston Villa on January 4, 2014, Bradford City on August 24, 2013, and Rotherham United on September 7, 2013.

The court also heard Morgan caused or contributed disorder at the Sky Bet League 2 clash between Rotherham United and Chesterfield at the New York Stadium on February 16, 2013.

The order, granted to South Yorkshire Police by the court, means Morgan cannot step within one mile or less of the Blades’ Bramall Lane stadium or Sheffield Town Hall on a match day.

Restrictions also bar Morgan from any pubs withing a specific exclusion zone on a match day. This does not apply when the defendant travels to and from his place of employment.

If the Blades are playing away, Morgan is not allowed within a mile of the opposing team’s stadium – or five miles if United are playing in London or Birmingham.

Under the four-year banning order, Morgan is order to ‘not engage in any activity that contributes to or cause, violence or disorder at or in connection with any football match taking place anywhere in the world’.
