Couple still fighting for partnership change date

Have your say

A couple who want to convert their civil partnership into a marriage are calling for the Government to confirm when they can make the change.

Michael and Paul Atwell-Brice, from Thurnscoe, Barnsley, have been told they will have to wait until the end of the year when systems are updated to allow the conversion.

Lawyers at Irwin Mitchell say they could take legal action to the High Court if changes are not implemented in a ‘reasonable timeframe’.

Zoe Round, specialist family lawyer, said: “Those in a civil partnership can’t plan their wedding because they don’t know when they can marry.”
