Officers investigating an assault in Chesterfield are trying to trace a couple who may have witnessed the incident.

Enquiries have been ongoing since the assault but police have so far been unable to identify the couple.

In the early hours of Monday, December 28, a man and a woman got into an argument in Chesterfield town centre and the woman was assaulted. A couple walked past the man and woman at about 1.30am in the area of the flats and car park on Camlough Walk, opposite the Riverside Family Club.

The couple may have witnessed something which could help the enquiry.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested and released on bail while inquiries continue.

The woman suffered a bloody nose, a bite mark to her cheek and grazes to her knees, arm and leg.
