A COUPLE lost in the dark on Kinder Scout, Derbyshire, were airlifted to hospital in Sheffield after being spotted by the county’s police helicopter.

The pair, from Dorset, were located from the air at 7.30pm on Sunday while members of Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were searching on foot.

Because one of the casualties had a lower back injury she was evacuated off Kinder Scout by an RAF Sea King helicopter and taken to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.

Meanwhile, Mountain Rescue Team volunteers lowered three sheep to safety after they became stranded on a ledge 20 metres up Millstone Edge, Hathersage.

Rescuers were lowered onto the ledge by rope and carried the sheep down.
