In 1994 Chris Sutton famously signed for Blackburn Rovers in an English record £5 million transfer, today Sutton has signed for the Charity Legends F.C team to take part in the Charity Legends football event on June 18th.
With this signing the Legends team have cemented their desire to score goals at this year’s Legends event and continued their all-out attack approach.
In his career Chris amassed 409 top level appearances and scored an impressive 148 goals, he was known as one half of the famous SAS partnership with Premiership legend Alan Shearer, scoring 15 league goals in Blackburn’s title winning season.
Over his career he generated transfer fees of £21 million including an unsuccessful £10 million transfer to Chelsea in 1999 which saw Sutton score just one goal for the club in a memorable 5-0 trashing of Manchester Utd.
Despite the unsuccessful season at Stamford Bridge, Chris later signed for Celtic, creating a fruitful partnership with Henrik Larsson and went on to win three Scottish League titles to add to his Premier League winner’s medal six years previous.
At 6ft3 and with a natural ability to score goals, Chris Sutton will pose a huge threat for our charity heroes in this year’s game.
Sutton joins Paul Merson, Darren Anderton, Lee Hendrie, John Beresford and Rovers legend James Coppinger in a very attack minded team.
Will the charity fundraisers be up to the challenge?
