I attended the meeting of the city council to hear the discussion on the closure of the Don Valley Stadium on Wednesday, November 6.
This was prompted by the submission of a petition of 6,000 signatures asking for a review of the original decision to close the stadium.
I could not understand why so few councillors chose to speak on this important issue. When somebody did speak it was often to the background of other councillors whispering or to heckling. The level of listening skills being demonstrated was poor.
Those who submitted the petition deserved some respect for their efforts to apply a democratic process to this decision and not be party to such rude responses. I left the meeting dismayed by the council’s performance in this meeting.
