A SHEFFIELD councillor has raised £1,000 for charity Diabetes UK by joining 54,000 people in the Great North Run.

East Ecclesfield Liberal Democrat councillor Colin Taylor handed over the sponsorship money to Glynis Beattie, representing the Sheffield branch of Diabetes UK.

Colin said “Having diabetes myself and in my family, it is a pleasure to be able to help in any way I can.

“Thanks to all those people who sponsored me. Having completed other marathons and half marathons for various charities, I am pleased that people have continued to sponsor me”.

Glynis said “Colin proves that someone with diabetes can continue to lead a normal life and take part in challenging sporting activities, we are very grateful to him for the money he has raised.”

Anyone with diabetes is welcome at the monthly meetings of the Sheffield support group of Diabetes UK, on the third Thursday of each month at 7.30 pm at Holden Hall, Norfolk Row. For more information, call 0114 2751266.
