The email has a form attached asking them to complete the form and send it back. Please make sure you delete this email straightaway and do not complete the form.

No changes are being made to the spare room subsidy – it will stay the same.

Councillor Neil Poole, cabinet member for policy and resources, said: “We want to make sure people are aware of this scam email going round. Our contact centre has received a number of calls about this email and the Facebook message. We are urging people to ignore these as the information is incorrect.

“Please make sure that if you receive this scam email you delete it and do not complete the form, as we do not know who is sending this email. It could be a virus.”
