Council targets illegal skip yard

LEGAL proceedings could be ordered by Sheffield Council over the continued ‘unauthorised use’ of two addresses for storage and hire of skips.

‘All necessary steps including enforcement action, service of a stop notice and institution of legal proceedings’ are being considered over the problems at a house on Woolley Wood Road, Shiregreen and business premises on Holywell Road, Holywell Road, Grimesthorpe.

Khalid Mahmood, a council planning officer, said: “The owners are not making any attempt to resolve this issue and it is considered the matter should be reported for enforcement action.”

A previous threat of prosecution had been made by the council in 2010, but was dropped after the couple said they would stop the activities, for which they do not have planning permission.
