Council rejects flats proposals

PLANS have been rejected to divide a building which is currently two flats into six one-bedroom apartments.

Sheffield Council’s city centre, south and east planning board decided to refuse permission for the scheme on Harcourt Road, Crookesmoor.

Coun Diana Stimely, a board member, said: “We were worried about expansion of student accommodation and wanted to retain a balanced neighbourhood with different types of households.”

Council planning officers had recommended the development should be approved.

The scheme had received eight objections from neighbouring residents who said they would prefer the building to be restored to a single large house which could attract a family, instead of more students.
