Council Leader Julie Dore considered resigning

Coun Dore revealed she had considered her position during a Cabinet meeting when member of the public Russell Johnson asked a number of questions about trees, injunctions and climate change.

Coun Dore said: “I have considered resigning and I decided to stay here. The Labour group are the largest party after the election. I remain the Leader of the Council after a selection for the Leader of the Labour group.”

She said after the meeting that election campaigns prompted all councillors to reconsider.

“At every election people consider whether they want to go through with it or stand down. As Leader, I am up for election every year with my Labour colleagues.”

Coun Dore also said Labour would work alongside the Green Party, who now have eight councillors, particularly on tackling climate change.

“We are always happy to work with councillors across all parties within the council and there are mechanisms in place to do that.

“We have scrutiny boards and policy development boards and all councillors can use these to develop joint, cross party policy on any matter. Any issues the Green councillors wish to get involved in have a scrutiny board.”
