A Sheffield Council Twitter account wrongly said that a road was not on its gritting routes after residents reported a smash.

A car went through a wall on the B6076 Cliffe Hill, Dungworth, during icy conditions yesterday, and was reported by dairy farmer Ed Andrews online.

He was told the road was not on gritting routes, although it has been treated for weeks following a U-turn on gritting cuts.

Mr Andrew said contractor Amey had done a ‘brilliant job’ gritting this winter but he worried that ‘not everyone was singing from the same hymn sheet.’

An Amey spokesman said there had been ‘confusion’ but they had attended and gritted the road.
