Barnsley Council is supporting the race, with next Friday’s stage starting outside the Town Hall and taking in a route around the borough, including Penistone where high profile work was done last year to capitalise on the presence of the event, before riders move on.

Temporary Events Notices are needed for licenced premises which want to open outside their normal hours and as a result, council licencing staff have been in touch with all premises on the route to make sure they are aware of the regulations and are able to make the most of the opportunity.

The licencing department also operates a scheme called Best Bar None for town centre pubs and clubs, to make sure they provide a safe environment for those who visit.

An awards scheme has been set up for 2018, with awards to highlight the venues which demonstrate the best performance in meeting the objectives of the Best Bar None scheme.

There will be winners in four categories, including best pub, best late night venue, people’s choice and an overall winner.

Barnsley Council has a team of trained assessors who are currently in the process of ranking the businesses involved and the winners will be announced in July.
