Photos show a quiet Sheffield city centre on first day of Tier 3 lockdown rules
Sheffield is now officially in the ‘very high’ level of coronavirus lockdown restrictions after being placed in Tier 3 of the government’s three tier Covid-19 scheme
Tough new restrictions on daily life came into force across South Yorkshire on Saturday, with different households now banned from mixing in all indoor settings, including private gardens and outdoor hospitality venues, such as cafes and restaurants.
Under new rules pubs and bars have also been forced to close if they do not serve ‘substantial meals’.
Our photographer headed out to Sheffield city centre to capture the scene on Saturday morning as the Tier 3 restrictions kicked in.

Graphic images warning: Horror discovery after skinned animals dumped in woods near Sheffield
The RSPCA has launched an investigation after the bodies of skinned animals were found in a small wooded area, near Sheffield
The bodies of two dogs and a rodent were discovered dumped in a copse, near Treeton Dike, on Saturday.
RSPCA inspector Jennie Ronksley described the scene as a ‘really shocking sight’.

The trust which runs the Calow hospital revealed it has taken the decision while a tracing exercise to swab all patients and staff – and contact family members – takes place.

Springer Spaniel Winston named South Yorkshire Police's animal of the year
A Springer Spaniel who helped track down a million pounds worth of drugs during his career has been named South Yorkshire Police’s Animal of the Year.
PD Winston became a drug, cash and firearms detection dog in 2014, and after a brief retirement returned to the force recently when officers became short of trained dogs.

Young man dies in M1 tragedy near Sheffield
A man aged in his 30s has died after an incident on the M1 north of Sheffield last night.
South Yorkshire Police were alerted at 7.16pm yesterday to reports of a road traffic collision on the M1 near Junction 38 ‘involving a car and a pedestrian’.

Covid deaths rise by 50 per cent in Sheffield, according the latest figures
Government figures reveal a 50 per cent rise in deaths with the coronavirus in the last week in Sheffield.
Latest figures covering the period up to Saturday, October 24, updated last night, showed 15 deaths within 28 days of a diagnosis of Covid 19 in the city, in the seven days previous.
