Bosses at West Road Primary Academy in Moorends have announced part of the school will be closed for two weeks and year one children and staff must stay at home.

A school spokesman said: “Due to the fact that member of staff has had direct contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus, we have been advised by Public Health to close our Year 1 Unit.

“Current guidance is that Year 1 will be closed for 14 days, but we will keep you informed via the website and text if the situation changes.

“The rest of school remains open as usual.”

There have been no official confirmed cases of coronavirus in Doncaster – although three cases have been confirmed in Sheffield, two in Barnsley and one in Rotherham.

The school is the latest in Doncaster to be hit by coronavirus.

Earlier this month, pupils at Hall Cross Academy, Don Valley, McAuley and New College Doncaster all issued advice to students and staff after half term trips to Italy, the most badly affected country in Europe where there have been more than 10,000 cases.

In Britain, there have been 590 confirmed cases with ten deaths but the figure is expected to rise significantly over the coming weeks.
