Cool Canasta, Under The Boardwalk, tonight

AFTER this lot last featured in our pages they got a call from local crooner Richard Hawley to come and play his album chart countdown party at Sheffield's Cricket Inn.

“The weekend turned out great,” recalls singer David Spencer, who also plays Rotherham’s Snafu on Sunday. “Not only did we play a stormer of a gig at Frogstock, but on Saturday night we got a call asking us to play at The Hawley Arms (Cricket Inn). Richard came up and said a few words to tell the multitude that Lady’s Bridge had entered the charts at number six and then borrowed my guitar and played two songs with the rest of Cool Canasta.”

As well as epic rock from subNova the Deuce Night bill features a performance from Helen Gray. Since releasing a Christmas charity single last year the Sheffield songstress has been working on an album - visit myspace.com/helengray for info and demos.

A short walk up the road the same evening and West Street Live hosts the Square ID launch party with music from Ocean State and Up Carey Street, plus The Jives.
