PLANS for a 78-metre high turbine on Pennine hills overlooking Stocksbridge have been withdrawn.
The proposals, on land off Tofts Lane, were opposed by Stocksbridge residents and town councillors - although the Campaign to Protect Rural England was in favour of the project because the structure would have been a similar height to pylons already erected and would have generated green energy.
Stocksbridge Lib Dem councillor Jack Clarkson said: “This is great news for the people of Stocksbridge and the Upper Don. The pressure that was placed on the applicant has paid dividends.”
Barnsley Council said: “The application has been withdrawn by the applicant. Therefore, it will not be presented to the planning board.”
