PLANS for 51 new homes are causing controversy in North Derbyshire - with more than 160 people objecting.
The proposals by Rippon Homes Ltd involve land off Nethermoor Road and Deerlands Road in Wingerworth.
Wingerworth Parish Council has also objected to North East Derbyshire Council, which is considering the application.
The objectors state that loss of the site would adversely impact on wildlife including foxes, badgers, herons, buzzards and owls which have been seen on it.
And there would also be a detrimental impact on the white-clawed crayfish in nearby Red Leadmill Brook.
North East Derbyshire Council planning officers are recommending the development is refused permission because it would form a ‘prominent intrusion’ into the countryside.
