An electrician injured while working at student accommodation is in a serious but stable condition.

The contractor was rushed to hospital yesterday afternoon following an incident at The Forge on Boston Street in Sheffield.

A second electrician who was working in the building was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The men, aged 30 and 31, are not from the local area.

Power to three blocks within The Forge went down following the incident and is yet to be restored.

Unite Students, who manage the property, arranged alternative accommodation for students affected while repair work and investigations continued.

A spokesman said it was hoped students could return to their apartments later today, but that alternative accommodation would be provided into the weekend should an earlier restoration of service not be possible.

Police and the Health and Safety Executive are continuing with enquiries.
