NEW heating equipment will be fitted to 6,000 Sheffield homes over the next two years in a contract worth £15 million.

Contractor Kier has signed a deal with Sheffield Council to make the investment to properties.

The contract, which began on April 1, will be funded by Sheffield Homes and will see Kier carry out improvements to homes ranging from boiler upgrades to full central heating installations.

Kier already provides a repairs and maintenance service to more than 42,000 council houses, plus municipal buildings and schools.
