CONFIRMED: Barry Bannan signs new Sheffield Wednesday deal

The Scottish midfielder had initially signed a short-term deal at Hillsborough in the summer but his consistently impressive displays moved the Owls hierarchy to offer Bannan a longer contract.

The 26 year-old has made 22 appearances this season, scoring twice, including a stunning effort against Fulham in the FA Cup last week.

In his weekly press conference, ahead of Saturday's match against Leeds United, Owls head coach Carvalhal said of the news: "We are very happy. We believe we have improved the abilities of the player. It's fantastic news."

Bannan, who was previously with Crystal Palace, joins Jack Hunt in signing on this week with the full back also being confirmed as staying on for three-and-a-half years.
