The mental wellbeing of armed forces veterans in the Barnsley area will be the focus of a conference.

Organised by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, the event on Wednesday, January 28, will see health and social care professionals from organisations across the area come together to discuss how they can work together to support local veterans.

Speakers will address a range of topics including post-traumatic stress disorder and the transition from armed forces to civilian life.

Local veterans will also attend the event to share their experiences and talk about the support they would like to see in the area.

The day will culminate with workshops and a question and answer session where guests will share their feedback on the day.

Janette Hawkins, acting lead nurse in specialist services at the trust said it was great to see everyone working towards a common goal.

She added: “This event will shape the future of mental health support for veterans in the area and it is essential that we involve them at the earliest possible stage so that we can find out what local demands are and how we can best meet them.”
