Concerned dad who contacted his ex-wife is jailed for breaching a restraining order

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Wednesday, July 11, how Scott Adams, 49, of no fixed abode, had visited his former wife at Glebe Avenue, Pinxton, because he claimed his family had been receiving threats.

Prosecuting solicitor Lynn Bickley said: “Police received reports from a social worker who had spoken to the children of the family and they discussed that their father had been to their home address which he was prohibited from doing by a restraining order.

“They also mentioned to the social worker the reason for his attendance was that the family was receiving threats from a female.”

Adams told police he had gone to the property to help his son who had been receiving threats.

He pleaded guilty to attending the address between June 1 and 7 and to contacting his former wife both of which he was prohibited from doing by a restraining order from January 2.

The court heard that this was Adams’s fifth breach of his restraining order.

Defence solicitor Webb said the defendant’s ex-wife had told her son to contact Adams about the threats they were receiving.

She added that Adams handed himself into police and co-operated and entered a guilty plea to the breach at an early stage in the proceedings.

Magistrates sentenced Adams to 26 weeks of custody and ordered him to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
