Community project set to expand onto second site in Sheffield

The Burton Street Foundation, which works with adults and children with physical and learning disabilities, is expanding onto another site across the road from its current base in Burton Street, Hillsborough.

On completion, the ‘Bamforth Building’ will offer work spaces for new enterprises and community activities, as well as creating additional space for Burton Street Foundation sessions, including an independent living bungalow to support

those wanting to gain the skills needed to live alone.

It will also host a new project supporting adults with learning disabilities to get into employment.

The Burton Street Foundation expansion project is being managed by construction company Kier, which has named the organisation as its ‘community partner of the year’.

Scott Murray, head of service for Kier in Sheffield, said: “As a local employer we are always keen to support good causes in the areas we work in, and we are extremely proud to be supporting the crucial work of the Burton Street Foundation.

“In addition to enabling us to give something back to a hard working local organisation, the project is providing an excellent opportunity for our apprentices to learn new skills.

“This renovation will be a key addition to the facilities provided by the Foundation and will offer significant benefit to current and future users and community organisations.”

Clare Mappin, managing director of the Burton Street Foundation, said “Our plan to expand was born out of necessity and- ambition, as we have faced an increasing demand for our services over the past few years.”
