'˜Community hub' opens doors today

A new community hub '“ complete with medical centre, pharmacy and library '“ opens in Woodseats today.

The Roddick Building, at 900 Chesterfield Road, will house the new Woodseats Medical Centre, previously located on Cobnar Road.

It also incorporates Woodseats Library, which Sheffield Council said was in a poor condition and could not be repaired when plans for the new facility on the same site as the library were submitted.

There were some objections to the plan as residents feared it would increase traffic in already busy Woodseats.

The rebuilt building has more space, which means the surgery will now be looking to take on new patients.

Dr Anthony Gore, GP and partner at the new Woodseats Medical Centre, said: “We are excited to be moving into the Roddick Building which we see as a community hub for the people in surrounding areas.

“By having the GP practice, pharmacy and council library under one roof, residents can access the health services they need while also using the library and meeting other local residents.

“The medical centre is remaining open during the move and we are planning to see patients today in our new home.

“We have also launched a new website, which should contain all the information patients are looking for. It has been designed with our patients’ needs in mind.”

Staff at the medical centre will be offering tours of the building today.

It retains the same opening hours.
