WORK has begun to convert what a garage at the former Brass Founders factory on Scotland Street in Sheffield city centre into a spacious community hall.
The Sheffield Chinese Cultural Exchange Community is creating a community space open to all.
It will be available to hire and for cultural activities including Mandarin and English courses, craft and culture exchange workshops, shows and exhibitions.
The organisation has been awarded a £16,000 Veolia Environmental Trust grant, through the Landfill Communities Fund, towards the conversion work, which is expected to complete by January.
Fundraiser Christine Fetter said: “It is fantastic to see this project getting underway.
“It will provide access for the whole community to an even wider range of culturally rich and diverse activities and events.”
