Community groups’ chance to reopen loos shut by council

Community and voluntary groups are being invited to take over closed public toilets in Sheffield.

Sheffield Council is currently working with both Bradfield and Ecclesfield Parish Councils who are keen to take over toilet blocks at Bradfield and Chapeltown.

Questions have also been raised about whether the loos at Fox House could be reopened, which would cost £8,000 a year to run.

Coun Isobel Bowler, council cabinet member for culture, sport and leisure, said: “It’s in everyone’s interest to keep the toilets open so we would be interested to talk through what’s required in situations like these from organisations who express an interest in keeping toilets open.”

Fox House toilets were among 11 blocks which closed on April 1, as part of cuts to save the council £50 million over the 2013/14 financial year.
