Commissioner’s letter to chief

SOUTH Yorkshire’s new police and crime commissioner has hit the ground running with a letter to the force’s chief constable outlining his priorities for the future.

Shaun Wright has written to Chief Constable David Crompton telling him he wants them to put together a joint engagement strategy, so they can gather and listen to the views of residents from across South Yorkshire and plan policing for the future.

Mr Wright said he would also be reviewing the force’s current policing plan and vowed to set his first budget and publish his first police and crime plan before the end of February.

He said he wanted to support officers and staff who were suffering from low morale due to issues including the Hillsborough Independent Panel report and subsequent IPCC investigation and the force’s self referral to the IPCC over the miners’ strike.
