Comeback for fish on river

Have your say

WILDLIFE along the River Sheaf is to thrive once again thanks to work to improve the habitat of fish and aquatic life.

The Environment Agency has been working to improve fish habitats by removing a weir near Heeley Bridge and building a channel to make it easier for fish to navigate the waters upstream.

Officers have also removed shoal deposits from the river, improving the amount of water that can get through and decreasing the flood risk.

Once hugely polluted and lifeless, the agency hopes renewed movements of fish along the river will benefit other wildlife.
