Coast down to Balby by the Sea

All the fun of the seaside, without actually being at the seaside, comes to Doncaster this month.

A corner of Balby is set to be transformed and all those great British seaside traditions, and much more, will be there for everyone to enjoy for free.

This follows the success of last year’s Balby By the Sea event. The Right Up Our Street team and Balby Community Arts will bring the fun back on August 13.

So there will be plenty going on - to see, to experience and to enjoy.

Family entertainment will include the thrills and spills of trapeze and aerial performance, face painting, circus workshops, pantomime, a ventriloquist, the giant deck-chair, a vintage tea room and Mexborough poets, to name just some.

All the atmosphere of a seaside town will prevail at the Woodfield Club on Woodfield Road from noon to 5pm.

Members of the local community have worked hard to create their own artistic version of the seaside, with multiple props and full preparation.

Andrew Loretto, project director from Right Up Our Street said: “We are delighted that the strong community group, Balby Community Arts, have worked together to ensure that the area can once again celebrate a summer event together.

“Last year saw hundreds of people and families taking part, both in the build-up and the event itself. Already this year, the group have worked on lots of creations for the Balby By the Sea event which will take place on Saturday, August 13.”

Balby by the Sea will be a celebration of all the work that has been created in Balby. There will be an exhibition of art works created by community members, and fun and games for all.

Sue Jarvis, from Balby Community Arts said: “We can’t wait to transform a little corner of Balby into a seaside spectacular for the day. There will be seaside themed performance, creative activities, food and fun.
